Hi, I am Elizabeth Cohen...and I help people

write and edit their books. I have worked with novelists, poets, journalists, nonfiction writers and short story authors, but my speciality is in the area of memoir.  You might say I am a memoir doctor. I enjoy taking a memoir that seems to be evading its author in one way or another, diagnosing its challenges, and then working INTENSIVELY with the writer to find real solutions to make it better and move it from the screen to the shelf.

I am a working essayist/journalist and the author of 8 books: an award-winning memoir, five books of poetry, a much-lauded, co-authored book of medical essays, and a book of short stories. I have been published by Random House, Bantam, Other Press, Kelsay Books, and the wonderful Saint Julian Press, among other places. This year I have become an editor for Mnemosyne, an memoir imprint that focuses on powerful stories by women writers as well as a poetry imprint called The Wild Haints.
